The book consists of several chapters based on 8 areas of life that we neglect and often overlook. These are: rest, mindfulness, passion, relationship, love, life, the future and spirituality. Each chapter begins with the most interesting part for me, it means with a short prologue in which the author – a South Korean Buddhist – tells an anecdote from his life about one of the above-mentioned topics. These anecdotes are very helpful not only to understand the author’s perspective of certain people and events, but more to discover some situations in which he has learnt something important for himself, has been enlightened and it is related to a specific topic of the chapter. Each of these anecdotes is followed by a poem, wisdom, or quotes addressed directly to the reader.
They can be taken as advice and, as the author wishes, they can accompany us during moments of fear, uncertainty or loneliness. The author himself mentions that many readers approach his book as if it were an ordinary story or a crime. Unlike this type of literature, his book should make us reflect. So take time to read and study each chapter quietly. A very nice addition are the beautiful illustrations that immediately stole my heart, designed to calm our emotions while reading and serve as a meditative impulse.
